Sommerhotellet's history
Sommerhotellet is a classic swiss style villa from 1891. From 1930 to 1960, people travelled to Sommerhotellet to stay for weeks. Regular guests stayed throughout the summer. The hotel has always only been open to guests during summer time.
1891-1958
Development and owners
The hotel was built by a local man, Ola Før, in 1891. In 1920, he sold the hotel to mr. Lem and his wife. Two years later they sold the hotel to Helge Torsteinsen Ellingbø. Helge married Marit Ellingbø, and together they operated both Fagerli hotell and Sommerhotellet from 1935 to 1958.The hotel was renovated by the new owner in year 2000,
1936-1937
Expanding for a restaurant with a view
I 1937, a restaurant was built in the front of the house, facing the lake and the mountain with spectacular view. The hotel was upgrade with hot and colc water. Marit Ellingbø was the owner and the host until 1970. She was famous for her hospitality. During war times she collected food for her guests from the farms, walking from farm to farm by herself. Her guests should have the best available foods.
1930-1970
The regular guests
Poet, musician and comedian Frimann Clasen and the artist Per Aabel (piccture) where among the regular guests in Vang and at Sommerhotellet from before the war and until mid seventies. They were also friends of the Ellingbø faily and Solemsli. Quite a few of Per Aabel's paintings are from Vang's landscpapes.
1970-2000
New times
In 1970, Marit Ellingbø sold the hotel to her niese Marit Solemsli, who kept Sommerhotellet and sold the other hotel, Fagerli hotel. Her daughter Ina inherited the hotel when Marit died in 1987. Sommerhotellet was more or less left empty until Trine Grann bought the hotel and renovated it in year 2000.
2000-2024
A new millenium at the hotel
Since year 2000, the hotel is completely renovated. The hotel's old soul is preserved, and a lot of the hotel's old furniture has been restored. The tradition with a summer hotel in Vang continues.
